El Dreamland Gran Canaria ha sido una catástrofe que ha terminado en descenso de categoría. Con sólo 10 victorias en la Liga Endesa, una eliminación temprana en el 'top 16' de la Liga de Campeones, fichajes sin impacto y una pérdida completa de identidad, garra y sistema de juego se puede resumir la temporada. La idea de principio de temporada de Jaka Lakovic era jugar más rápido y dar 'un plus físico', pero los experimentos en las incorporaciones salieron fallidos y todo resultó en un Gran Canaria que no fue capaz de subir el ritmo de juego ni tener certezas competitivas o anotadoras. Tanto es así, que el conjunto claretiano concluye su periplo en la Liga Endesa con la media de puntuación más baja de todo el campeonato, con apenas 81,29 puntos por encuentro, y muriendo con un recurso al que trató de aferrarse desesperadamente y que también le fue esquivo, el triple, donde el Granca figura como el decimoquinto de la Liga Endesa con tan solo un 33,2 por ciento. El Gran Canaria Arena dejo de ser un fortín. La pérdida de fortaleza en el Gran Canaria Arena también ha pasado factura al equipo presidido por Sitapha Savané, que apenas consiguió sumar cinco de diecisiete victorias en un recinto que solía ser un fortín y que ha sucumbido al año más oscuro de la historia del Dreamland Gran Canaria. De poco alivio sirvió el cambio de competición europea, ya que el desembarco en la Liga de Campeones de Baloncesto de la FIBA (BCL) ilusionó en la primera fase pero acabó convirtiéndose en todo un fiasco, ejemplificado en la última derrota en casa ante el ERA Nymburk checo (82-92). A partir de ahí, todo fue cuesta abajo, enganchando hasta ocho derrotas seguidas en la ACB. Una temporada que ha generado una tremenda desafección de la marea amarilla con el conjunto amarillo, que no ha dudado en pedir en más de una ocasión la salida del director deportivo, Willy Villar, y del presidente amarillo, Sitapha Savané, ambos con contrato hasta 2027. Mientras tanto, cada vez menos gente en las gradas… Otro de los puntos delicados de la temporada fueron, sin duda, los atrasos en los pagos de su principal patrocinador, Dreamland, a pesar de que la directiva del club aseveraba que dicha tesitura no afectó en el plano deportivo. Aún así, se generaron numerosas noticias al respecto e incluso fricciones entre administraciones, al recordarse en mitad del proceso presuntas ayudas económicas pendientes. Tampoco ayudó el bajón de nivel drástico de pesos pesados de la plantilla como el capitán Andrew Albicy, gran decepción del año, Mike Tobey o el irregular Nico Brussino, que se unió al error en los fichajes de Kur Kuath, Louis Labeyrie, Eric Vila o Brandon Jefferson, insuficientes para competir en la Liga Endesa. Ante tal panorámica, al directiva realizó varios movimientos mediáticos para frenar la incertidumbre y la preocupación, ratificando a Lakovic y Willy García como activos fundamentales. Pero fue un espejismo ya que, con la derrota ante el San Pablo Burgos (95-109) en casa y, para más inri, con un extécnico amarillo en el banquillo rival como Porfi Fisac, terminó desembocando en la destitución del estratega esloveno.
